Two words-corneal abrasion
A couple of weeks ago I told someone that I had been fantasizing about having some time to myself.
Well, I found a way to guarantee myself a weekend in bed although it wasn’t what I had been fantasizing about.
Corneal abrasion. Yes, hold your eye in sympathy now.
I woke up Friday morning in excruciating pain and unable to open my left eye. A quick trip to the doctor ended with my driver (aka my father) dropping me at the emergency department of our local hospital with a cap pulled low over my eyes, and the left lens of my sunglasses stuffed with tissues. Yes, I was quite a spectacle, but ask me if I cared. I only changed out of my pajamas before I left because my children insisted.
To make a long story short, after two trips to emergency, and a visit to an ophthalmologist office yesterday, I have confirmation that I have a HUGE (that’s a medical term) corneal abrasion on my left eye. I feel like a have a handful of glass under my eyelid, and it won’t go away, although today is the fifth day and it is not quite so painful. It has also affected my vision and I am really hoping that when it is fully healed, my vision goes back to 20/20.
So, just in case any of you are fantasing about some time away from your responsibilities, just know that I do not recommend corneal abrasion as a way out. Also, I do not recommend sobbing uncontrollably from the pain in front of your children, as this will surely set them up for a lifetime of insecurities, and therapy.
It has taken me two days to type up this post with one eye squeezed shut, and one eye struggling to do all the work. Will post again when I am able.
