From time to time I will post ads on free classified websites to get my fiveallmine.com name out there. Considering I haven’t spent a cent on advertising, it has done amazingly well with over 20,000 hits in 7 months.
.
Yesterday I decided to post an ad on Kijiji and did so, basically just outlining my website and that I had 5 kids in 6 years and write about funny, parenting related topics. I was surprised this morning to see a reply! I have never received one and couldn’t imagine why I had.
.
This is what it said:
.
whoop i have 5 kids as well
.
A simple looking line, but I had to read it over several times to figure out that it was meant as sarcastic, maybe that’s because I’m typically a positive person or maybe I’m just slow, but whatever, it took me some time to figure out the context of ‘whoop.’ Now I realize that it was meant as ‘big whoop’. Remember when we used to say that when we were 15?
.
It made me laugh out loud! I bet this woman did not plan on making me laugh, but she did. She even gave a real email address, so while I did contemplate writing her back, I ended up taking the high road and just sat back and chuckled instead.
.
I hope this poor woman is not 15. If so, she would have had to have her kids even closer together than I did, maybe with a couple sets of twins. Hmmm, maybe that is the case and maybe that’s why she is so bitter…
.
In that case, she deserves to be bitter, but maybe she should try using some birth control.
.
I’ve heard it works! Whoooppp!

We used to say “whoopee” with eyes rolling up to express sarcasm. Do people say that anymore?
Well, just for the record, I think 5 kids in 6 years is a pretty big deal, unless you’re compared with octomom…

I also did not take it as sarcastic statement – maybe because I am also a positive person or maybe because at 15 I hardly spoke English and did not know expressions such as ‘ whoop’. If I had 5 kids I would also tell the whole world about it and be very proud!!! I love telling people about my twins:) You have a great family Kelly…and a great sense of humour too:)

Thanks Violet. I think this lady missed the point of my ad, which is not that I have 5 kids, but that I write funny, parent relatable stories about them..

Thank Katy. I think that 5 kids in 6 years was truly insane, not to mention accidental. I definitely don’t recommend it but it does give me a lot to write about! If the octomom has a blog I would like to read it, I need to check that out!

This was a good chuckle for me today too. I have 3 boys (which I had in less then 4 years, no multiples) and am loud and proud about it. It sounds to me like the bitter one is unable to see the glass as half full! But I will say that I do get people that give me this same sort of comment- like when I was 38 weeks pregnant with my third and at the grocery with the older two (just 3 and 18 months at the time) and this woman actually came up to me and said – “Do you realize what you have gotten yourself into?” I couldn’t help it I burst out laughing in her face! Some people just don’t get it!
Great blog BTW! I have added you to my blog roll.

I think you should be very proud of having 5 kids in 6 years. I am like OutnumberedMama, I had 3 boys in 4 yrs. Some days I feel like I’m going to lose my mind so I applaud you for still having your sanity. I love that I found your blog because it gives me strength to see that you are still standing with 5 kids. (oh, and that pic of the creature with 9 babies on her back…that was just inspirational.
Maybe if ‘Bitter Mom’ had any positivity in her, she would read your blog and see that it may help heal her bitterness. I’m glad you brushed it off. I think you are great!

Thanks again Jackie. I once heard a quote from an inspirational speaker who said ‘you make a choice to be offended’ and when I thought about it, I realized he was right! Now I choose never to be offended, I don’t have time for negative energy! (I love that possum pic too, sooo much! Think about it though, she had to breastfeed those little monsters as well as carry them around, she definitely deserves her own website!!!)
