My babygirl, seven year old Sabrina, can be a serious girl. Her teacher told her that she needs to smile more. Sabrina told me this on our way to Walmart and we decided that we would do an experiment to see what happens when she smiles at strangers.
.
So. As we walk toward Walmart, we notice the greeter was an elderly gentlement with a red baseball cap. I tell Sabrina he is her first attempt. As she walks toward him with a full on smile, a couple of kids run to him and ask him for stickers. She did not get his attention. So we move on.
.
Cranky looking lady with a shopping cart didn’t even look her way, even though Sabrina walked right beside her and smiled up into her face…but then just as we thought this game a failure, a reward! A returned smile! And then another and another!
.
Sabrina is definitely encouraged to smile more now. And this game is fun! Who knows who might smile back!? The cranky looking man with the walker? The harassed looking cashier? It’s a challenge! A smile challenge!………and it keeps her busy so she doesn’t ask me to buy her stuff…just sayin’!
